ized in long-term addiction treatment since 1971. The nonprofit facility is a safe haven for people who want to redeem their lives from drugs and unhealthy lifestyles by fo- cusing on developing important character qualities like self-esteem, self-worth and self-discipline.
Founder Vincent Marino created Habili- tat as a solution to a challenge. At the time, he was working at a different treatment program that had to close down, leaving residents without a place to heal. Since he had close relationships with these people, he decided to find a house in Kailua to start his own program and continue helping the residents. Eventually, he was able to find the current space in Ko‘olau, and today, the program has grown to include a 90 to 120 residents. Amenities include a jacuzzi, fitness center, pier access, boats, basketball and volleyball courts, and oceanfront gar-
