hroughout the pandemic, Boy Scouts in Troop 311 sponsored by St. John Vianney Church in Kailua have con-
tinued to advance — even to the rank of Ea- gle Scout.
The troop held its Eagle Court of Honor celebration April 24, recognizing five Eagle Scouts. It brought Troop 311’s Eagle ranks to 85 since Troop 311 was formed in 1979. The Scouts recognized are Keaton Matsushita, Quinn Grimes, Tariq Lockett, Derrick Djou and Logan Henderson.
The troop also presented a special Boy Scouts of America Medal of Merit to 12-year-old Star Scout David King who used his Scout skills to help and possibly save others. On Aug. 28 of last year, during a challenging hike at the Waimano ridge trail, David performed a heroic feat by assisting a couple and their dog. They were lost, their cell phones were dead, they had no water, and their 100-pound pitbull Smokey was in- jured. After learning how to do it from his Eagle Scout older brother Ryan, David sug-
