s a neighborhood-based missional community, Our Kahuhipa’s team members and volunteers share a col-
lective hope that, as neighbors, participants can build a community that reflects aloha for all.
Our Kahuhipa is part of the nonprofit Ma Ke Alo o, which believes in being present in the community for others. The organization essentially connects those being served, such as keiki in need, the houseless community in Kāne‘ohe and kūpuna, with those who vol- unteer and serve as “neighborhood-minded go-getters.”
Our Kahuhipa lead Melissa Cabagbag ex- plains that the group started out “in the simplest of ways” by doing a monthly street cleanup with the hope of sprucing up Kahuhipa Street and connecting service-minded individuals. After nearly six months and limited interest from the public, Cabagbag and the team shift- ed focus to something that would surely bring people together: food.
