Finally, the format is totally new. Our top 10 WCT talents — the top five ranked wom- en and top five men — will be on-hand Sept. 9-17 for the holding period for this epic one-day event. Women will start off and alternate heats with men all day.
If Defay wins, it will be her first and the first WSL championship for France. If Gilmore wins, this will be her eighth world title — a new women’s world record!

Here’s how the new format works: heat one pits Nos. 5 and 4 against each other. The winner goes against No. 3 in heat two. Then, it’s No. 2 ver- sus the winner of heat three. Next, the winner of that third heat going against the world’s No. 1 ranked in heats four, five and six. The one who wins two-out-of-three is the new world champ.
