tudents, teachers and administrators at Sacred Hearts Academy have taken a proactive approach to STEAM and
its importance in the learning environment, especially in today’s rapidly evolving world. According to Sacred Hearts Academy president Scott Schroeder, the STEAM areas of science, technology, engineering, art and math “are important for girls for two central reasons as we see it at the Academy. First, they are linked to careers that are (in) high demand now and into the future, and every industry is becoming increasingly engaged with STEAM fields in their strategies for
success.
“Second, study of STEAM fields inher-
ently involves learning by trial and error and ongoing, hands-on practice. This helps students develop their initiative taking and resilience, two characteristics that research shows support life-long success. In STEAM fields, failure isn’t failure but the next step to great results.”
