is now celebrating its 70th anniversary. Starting out as a small church-based pre- school in Wahiawā, the institution has come a long way. Head of school Mark Sugimoto explained the preschool initially opened in 1952 and was called King’s School, named after King’s Bible Church. Eventually, the school’s reach expanded to include elementa- ry and high school students, and was renamed
Hanalani Schools.
“As the school continued to grow to have
an elementary and high school, they needed more space for the high school and rented the old YMCA in Wahiawā, so the school was a split campus,” says Sugimoto.
The need for a larger facility was evident, so when the opportunity to purchase land in Mililani presented itself, the school took it. And the rest is history.
Hanalani Schools made the move in 1982 and developed the Mililani property to meet SEE PAGE 4
