Man Strives To Make Others Best At Chess

ahiawā resident Louis Tomsic loves playing chess and wants to spread the joy of the strategic
game to others. He’s seeking more people to join Hawaiʻi Chess Club on chess.com.
“We will be competing in the United States Chess League in May 2021 against other states’ best chess players. I am the team captain for Hawaiʻi and I need some play- ers to join my chess team,” Tomsic explains. “I’m really gung-ho with this thing.”
As a tournament director, he’s striving to keep Hawaiʻi chess players competitive online. Meanwhile, Tomsic is developing a five-player team to compete in live matches and getting all participants to work as a team in vote chess (a game with multiple partic- ipants on different sides where each player casts a vote to determine the final move).
Tomsic is a volunteer coach at ʻIliahi Ele- mentary School, where his sons attend class- es. For the past two years, he’s taught about 20 kids how to play chess and basic strate- gies to improve. Tomsic has also instructed
