or students in Castle High School’s ProtoKnights Robotics program, the goal is to develop their 21st century
skills — including problem solving, collab- oration, communication and perseverance to best prepare for wherever lies ahead in life.
“Whether it is going into the workforce, continuing to higher education, serving in the armed forces, or whatever their destina- tion may be, we hope to help prepare stu- dents to succeed in life,” says Ryan Saito, coach of ProtoKnights Robotics at Castle High School.
The Kaimukī resident has worked as an educator with the state Department of Edu- cation for 22 years and currently serves as a STEM (Science Technology Engineering Math) coordinator at Castle.
The name of Castle’s robotics program is as creative as its members: the ProtoKnights is a play on words combining prototype, and Castle’s Knights mascot. Saito explains that students typically spend at least a few days after school and some Saturdays planning,
