Retired Kalāheo librarian Martha Rob- ertson — a current library volunteer, school foundation board member and amateur pia- nist — conferred with school librarian Dan- ielle Fujii and then contacted Piano Planet. The piano was delivered on Jan. 31 and quickly attracted the attention of students and teachers. Walk-ins are allowed, but Fu- jii prepared a sign-up sheet for reservations during recesses and after school. In addition to piano playing on school days, Robertson and other board member volunteers — for- mer principal Jim Schlosser and retired math teacher Apolonia Stice — envision music events with piano and other instruments.
alāheo High School’s piano players and listeners gathered recently to thank Piano Planet owner George
Nellas, who donated a used piano to the school library.
“The Kalāheo High School Founda- tion continually seeks ways to support the school,” states Robertson, “and because the library is virtually always open, the piano is accessible to everyone on the campus.”
