The early hours for this will allow art lovers to attend other major art events that evening at The ARTS at Marks Ga- rage, Downtown Art Center, and Hawai‘i State Art Mu- seum. Many people will also have dinner at one of the ex- cellent area restaurants. En- joying our vibrant downtown art scene is a great way to spend a Friday evening!

The beautiful travertine lobby of Pauahi Tower on Bishop Street in Honolulu will be the setting for this exciting event from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. on First Friday, May 6.
A unique creative element of the reception will be the opportunity for guests to play a game of hide-and- seek with paintings. It is not the people who are hiding; it is elements of the paint- ings themselves that will be eluding guests. Those solv- ing the clues can win simple, cheery art prizes.

Doi and D’ A ngelo are each talented artists with their own styles and subjects. Despite having long success- ful careers in art, this is the very first time they will be painting on the same canvas. It’s an unusually large piece and it will be very exciting to see their first collaborative painting.
Two portraits of Wendy Roberts’ children will be displayed for the first time together in this show. Sora in the Garden was painted as a companion piece to Elysia in the Garden. Elysia has one more year at home, while Sora is at University of Utah pursuing a degree in comput- er game design.
Another of the evening’s highlights will be Fashion and Fun, a chance to meet the artists and see the art show while viewing a fash- ion show by Honolulu Com- munity College of Fashion Design students, starting at 5:30 p.m.
“Painting and displaying Sora’s portrait helps me feel connected even though she is miles away,” Roberts says.
D’Angelo teaches the fashion illustration class at HCC and took this opportu- nity to feature some of the student designers’ creations in person as they were not able to have a traditional fashion show this year be- cause of COVID-19 restric-
In addition to Doi, D’ A n- gelo and Roberts, the other artists in the show are Trev- or Kodama, noted for his sophisticated ceramic work; David Luchak, admired for his landscapes and intro- ducing vibrant semi-abstract paintings; and George Wool- lard, who will be display- ing large three-dimensional pieces. Their work will be on display through Sept. 10 at Pauahi Tower Mezza- nine Level (floor 2), Bish- op Square, located at 1003 Bishop St., open 8:30 a.m.- 5:30 p.m. Mondays-Fridays.
