irl Scouts Madison Uehara and Sarah Ganiko saw the work that their teachers at Maunawili Ele-
mentary put into furnishing their classrooms for each school year and wanted to find a way to help out.
The then-sixth graders sought out their teachers’ suggestions for what would be most helpful in the classrooms. The answer: bookshelves.
“As former students of Maunawili Ele- mentary School, we wanted to give back to the amazing teachers there who dedicate so much of their own time and money for their students and classrooms. When we asked, many of the teachers expressed the need for furniture — bookshelves and cubbies — to store textbooks and students’ school sup- plies,” states Uehara.
Sarah’s mom, and Girl Scout troop 789 leader, Amy Ganiko, believes the idea came to the girls after they helped teachers prep a classroom one year.
