he inspiration for Tori Santos’ deci- sion to open a brand-new business in Kāne‘ohe stemmed from a career
change, commitment to her ‘ohana and the need to adapt during the COVID-19 pandemic. As a dental assistant while in high school, Santos was encouraged to join the Air Na- tional Guard by the doctor’s office she worked for. She became an air traffic control- ler while going to school to become a dental hygienist, and after serving as a hygienist for 20 years, she began working part time after
becoming a mother to two young keiki. When the COVID-19 pandemic affected nearly all aspects of society in early 2020, Santos channeled her artistic prowess by creating customized signs and do-it-yourself
kits, and showcasing them on Facebook.
“I so enjoyed seeing that people loved what I created,” Santos says. “I have always dreamed of owning a brick-and-mortar (store) and finally decided to take the plunge” ear- lier this year by opening Indi & Dash Co. in Windward City Shopping Center. The busi-
