est O‘ahu residents are invited to participate in Hawaiʻi State Public Library System’s Summer Reading
Challenge, this year titled Oceans of Possibil- ities. The program begins June 5 and runs till July 30.
Adding to the fun, the library partners up with National Oceanic and Atmospheric Ad- ministration (NOAA) to provide children with downloadable activities each week, covering topics like exploring coral reefs and tide pools, along with virtual ocean-related programs for all ages, too.
This summer’s challenge is to read 1,000 minutes, with fun rewards for getting to cer- tain milestone marks. The grand prize is four round-trip airplane tickets.
“Get ready to have a ‘sand-sensational’ time reading and visiting your library this summer,” states Stacey Aldrich, who is the state librarian. “You can even participate if you are on vaca- tion and traveling. You can download great e-books and audiobooks to read and keep track of all your minutes online.”
