tretching along the coast from Pearl Harbor to Wai‘anae lies a 77-acre park that’s home to more than 177 cultural
sites, heiau and habitation areas. Filled with history and cultural significance, the Kalae- loa Heritage Park is kept safe by a group of volunteers called the Kalaeloa Heritage and Legacy Foundation (KHLF).
It was Kapolei Hawai‘i Civic Club that was involved in the consultation and rec- ommendation of the park. The group advo- cated that the entire 77 acres be identified as the Kalaeloa Heritage Park. Over the years, KHCC worked to care for the properties, conducted site tours at the request of the Navy and eventually, was asked by the state to serve as stewards and was awarded the lease for the park. In 2010, KHCC formed a private nonprofit organization that became KHLF.
Completely run by volunteers with no paid staff, it’s a busy job.
