policies and more. The FUTURE section asks you for information on things that you may, or may not have already arranged for your future such as your living will, trust, life insurance, funeral plans, and long-term healthcare directives among others. The Miscellaneous section covers everything else in your life like your family traditions, legacy, divorce, pets and more. All these sections together create a comprehensive guide for you to compile all your important affairs. Your Ho’okele guidebook is designed for practical use today and in the future; be sure to share it only with your most trusted advisors.
One of the main reasons we decided to post the Ho’okele online is that if we published the comprehensive four-part booklet all at once, the most likely scenario is
Ever since we launched the “Get Your House In Order” campaign we have heard story after story about how this guidebook could have helped a family in a time of crisis. During such times, having a completed Ho’ okele, and informing your ohana so they have

that most people would find it too daunting to complete. We wanted to release it into easily digestible sections that you could work on gradually. We also released it online for other reasons. 1) The art of legible handwriting is being lost – nowadays most prefer to fill forms online. The Ho’okele is a fillable PDF so it can be easily completed online and printed; 2) Ease of distribution across the entire state of Hawai’ i, as the Ho’ okele can be easily downloaded with the touch of a few keystrokes; and 3) To get our families talking about important life planning issues that may affect the entire ohana. Many families find these discussions difficult, and sometimes leaders of a family do not share their legal, financial and other sensitive affairs due to cultural norms.
Included in the Ho’ okele guidebook is a section where you can list a neighbor’s phone number. Though this may seem unnecessary at first, consider this scenario: Your mother lives on another island. If something was to happen to her and she wasn’t answering your calls, you could immediately refer to her Ho’ okele and call her neighbor. If a situation arose and you lost consciousness, and an ambulance was called, the emergency responders could ask your family members what medications you were taking and about
any allergies you may have. Your family could open your Ho’ okele guidebook 1.2 and have the answers there. But, if you never shared your Ho’okele with your family, they would be in the dark and you could jeopardize things for yourself even further.
The rich cultural history that we experienced is a crucial life force for our keiki. It becomes a compass to guide their way and gives a deeper meaning to their lives. It’s an ohana thing.
and retirement information, insurance and bank document locations, and vital contacts. Over the next year, there will be four phases of the Get Your House in Order campaign with a new section of the Ho’okele available from the HIFICU.com website during each quarterly phase.
