   Interior designer Cathy Lee’s latest commercial project at the Ronald Mc- Donald House on Judd Hillside has truly been a labor of love. For over a year, she generously donated her time and services in designing the new two-story family recreation center, com- plete with a family room, gam- ing area, LEGO wall, kids tree- house, relaxation loft and more.

“It was important to me to make it as amazing as possible,” says Lee, noting that countless local contractors, craftsmen, artists and vendors also donated their time and service.
“She thought she was going to meet Ronald McDonald at his house,” recalls Lee. “She delivered the money, but it was a pivotal point because she got a tour of the house, sang some songs and met kids and sick children and the people who were staying there. Ever since then she’s been connected with giving back and charity and the Ronald McDonald House.”

Throughout the years, they’ve raised money for nonprofits dedicated to helping kids, such as Friends of Children’s Justice Center and Kapi‘olani Medical Center for Women & Children’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. In 2018, when Nic- ki was a senior in high school, they raised over $350,000 to renovate the Ronald McDon- ald House playroom.
