ore than 40,000 lives have been lost to the massive earthquakes that struck southern Turkey and
northern Syria last month.
Here at home, a Honolulu restaurant
with ties to the region is doing its part to raise awareness and funds for those devas- tated by one of the deadliest natural disas- ters to hit the region in over a century.
Istanbul Hawai‘i, located across the street from Kaka‘ako Whole Foods, will be holding a special fundraising event on March 13-14. From 1 to 7 p.m., the restau- rant will offer a special Turkish culinary experience menu, with 100% of proceeds from that menu being donated to UNICEF or customers’ choice of a reputable organi- zation providing disaster relief.
“We still have a lot of friends and fam- ilies there and would like to ask everyone here to join us on our efforts to assist those who are displaced, homeless and survivors who are losing hope,” states Ahu Hettema, chef and co-owner of Istanbul Hawai‘i.
