aimukī eatery Kim Chee Restaurant No. 2 has been an East Oʻahu staple for nearly 45 years. Though, meat
jun, a tasty beef-centric dish that owner Jim- my Chun says was invented by his father and grandmother, isn’t the only thing that the biz is known for. Giving back to the community remains paramount for the restaurant, which is located at 3569 Waiʻalae Ave. No. 104.
“We’ve had three generations of custom- ers come here,” says Chun. “We’re really blessed here, and we want to bless the com- munity, too, by giving back.
“We’ve always been giving back in some- way ... we’ve always been donating stuff to people and, this time, there’s so much homelessness, so much people who are los- ing their job. I figured we need to help our community.”
Between 2 and 3 p.m., individuals and families can call Chun at 737-7733 for a free takeout meal.
“No questions, no ifs, ands or buts. We just ask that you come humbly, and we feed you humbly.”
