orn and raised in Mililani, Ben- ji Menor performs music mixing a variety of genres and instruments,
spanning punk to house and more.
Menor, who goes by the artist name Rue- fish, also has a film background in Hawai‘i that informs the structure of his songs, which all tell a story. He also shares that his music contains cathartic themes and lyrics tackling important mental health issues.
“I started making music around two years ago as a way of working through a lot of strong emotions I was feeling at the time that I wasn’t able to clearly get out through filmmaking, my then-No. 1 passion,” Menor explains. “Music was an accessible medium in which I could express my creativity and emotions without needing an entire crew and an enormous budget.
“Music was pure therapy in the begin- ning but as I began to feel more comfortable with the new landscape, I began to see im- provement, and the feedback I received was
