Min- dy Jaffee, coordinator of the Windward Zero Waste School Hui, states in a press release that the group has recently “suffered a devastating setback” be- cause the state Department of Education has shut down its flagship campus at Kain- alu Elementary School due to a neighbor complaint. “WZWSH has been suc- cessfully operating at Kain- alu since 2017, serving 535 children daily. The school generates on average 22 tons of food waste annual- ly, every morsel of which is recovered and expertly pro- cessed right on the school campus using safe, natural techniques,” Jaffee states. The group is asking for support in two ways. One is asking the public to make tax-deductible donations at its GoFundMe page at gofund.me/b23afe2e. The other is by asking the pub- lic to contact their elect- ed officials and “let them know as voters, taxpayers and concerned citizens you demand a better world,” Jaffee states ... drobbins@ midweek.com
