Keiki dance during the Arts for ‘Aikahi Festival and Concert at ‘Aikahi Elementary School on March 4. The event featured a student art display, a fun fair with games and keiki activities, food trucks, and live entertainment by Kamuela Kahoano, Big Every Time and Peni Dean. stellar service provided at Kalapawai Mar- ket. A Kailua institution for more than a century, its iconic green facade serves as a welcoming landmark for those headed to and from the area’s famous beaches.
Shoppers and diners rely on the crack seed and grocery store, which was owned by the Wong family prior to Don Dymond taking ownership in 1992. Longtime cus- tomers remember Elise Wong, who would put kids to work at the store if they couldn’t pay for their favorite candy.
After Don’s passing, his son, Lind- sey, took over operations in 2014 and has grown the brand to include Kalapawai Café & Deli locations in Kailua town, Ka- polei and Waimānalo.
“What’s important to us is our heritage in the Windward community, as we started with Kalapawai Market, right in front of Kai- lua Beach,” says Lindsey. “My father was
