Windward O‘ahu high school students who are passionate about spreading peace and strengthening the relationship between Hawai‘i and Hiroshima are welcome to apply.
The pair will also be re- ceived by the Hiroshima Peace Scholarship’s newly founded sister program, the Hawai‘i Heiwa Scholar- ship, which plans to send high school students from Hiroshima to Hawai‘i start- ing in the spring of 2024.
To qualify, students must complete a written appli- cation that includes a pro- posal identifying a family member whose wartime experiences they want to learn more about and share with high school students in Hiroshima. The purpose of the proposal would be to highlight the impact of war and the importance of peace. Finalists will be re- quired to attend an oral in- terview.
One public school stu- dent and one private school student will be chosen. The winning pair will attend monthly workshops in Ho- nolulu to prepare them for an educational summer trip to Hiroshima, where they will explore the history and impact of World War II, participate in events commemorating the Aug. 6, 1945, bombing of Hiro- shima and experience liv-

JASH is a nonprofit with a mission to promote peace, understanding and friend- ship between Japan and the United States through the unique perspective of Hawai‘i. It has been over- seeing the Hiroshima Peace Scholarship since 2021.

Keiki attend the recent fall festival at Kuilima Farm in Kahuku. The farm is owned by Turtle Bay Resort and managed by Pono Pacific. The event included a pumpkin patch, tractor rides, fall photo ops, food, family activities and live music. Proceeds from the event supported the Turtle Bay Foundation and local school organizations.
