Windward Raised Crosswalk Install Set
The state Department of Transportation has announced that it is continuing efforts to improve highway safety through the installation of raised pedestrian crossings in Windward O‘ahu.
Castle High School; Oct. 10- 11 at Kāne‘ohe Bay Drive and Nāmoku Street; Oct. 12-13 at Kāne‘ohe Bay and Mikiola drives; Oct. 14-19 at Mōka- pu Boulevard, Iliani Street, Mōkapu Boulevard and Iliwa- hi Loop.
Installation took place Sept. 26-27 on Kailua Road in the vicinity of Ko‘olau Farmers.
One lane in each direction will remain open at all times. Additional closures will be needed for the permanent striping of the crosswalks. Ac- cording to HIDOT officials, this cannot be done at the same time as the installation, because the striping would not adhere properly to new asphalt.
Each installation will be performed over the course of two days, weather permitting, and proceed as follows: Sept. 28-29 at Kailua Road and Uluo‘a Street; Sept. 30 and Oct. 3 at Kalaniana‘ole High- way and Ulupuni Street; Oct. 4-5 at Kalaniana‘ole Highway and the Hawai‘i Youth Cor- rectional Facility; Oct. 6-7 at Kāne‘ohe Bay Drive and
