 Volunteers Help To Build Waimānalo Home For Veteran

“It’s such an honor to be able to show our gratitude to a local veteran and his fam- ily to achieve their dream of home ownership,” states Momi Akimseu, Bank of Hawai‘i Foundation presi- dent, who also volunteered at the build site. “Supporting Honolulu Habitat for Hu- manity’s mission of housing kama‘āina is more important now than ever.”
After a special blessing with family and friends in attendance, Enid and Lloyd Young moved into their home with grandchildren Maddie and Logan.
Lloyd served in the U.S. Navy on the USS Radford for four years after enlisting in 1965.
This was a moment more than 50 years in the making. The Young ‘ohana has been on the state Department of Hawaiian Home Lands’ list since 1971.
BOH officials state that his service is what inspired the bank’s military employ- ee group to pick up their hammers and help build the frame of the Young family’s home.
In all, 162 volunteers helped for 1,131 hours to build the Young fami- ly home. This is Honolu- lu Habitat for Humanity’s 88th home completed on O‘ahu.
