She’s excited to be releasing a new book in February, titled The Angel of Santo Tomas: The Story of Fe del Mundo. reating children’s books wasn’t al- ways part of the plan for author Tammy Yee of Kāne‘ohe. A pediatric
medical surgical nurse who cared for chil- dren for many years, Yee was placed on bed- rest during her second pregnancy and started painting to kill time. She never returned to nursing, but did come a full circle by de- signing murals still on display at Kapi‘olani Medical Center.
“Pediatric nursing and creating books for children are alike in that they both offer em- pathy, hope and healing. I particularly love children’s publishing because the industry is dedicated to creating quality content for kids,” Yee says.
