        Kupu and Kōkua Ha- waiʻi Foundation have an- nounced the start of their fifth annual Hawai‘i Youth Sustainability Challenge cohort, an opportunity that allows students statewide to solve “community partner- ship challenges,” in addition to the conservation and sus- tainability challenges they identify within their schools and neighborhoods.

Selected students are in all the various grades of high school and receive funding, mentorship and training to support their innovative and grassroots environmen- tal initiatives. Projects are awarded up to $1,000 based on scope and need.
 Community Partner Chal- lenges include Kalāheo High School students who will join forces with Maui Nui Botanical Gardens to design environmentally friendly plant pots — “Pots that Rot – Sus-Attainable.”
Trainings cover topics such as goal setting and ac- tion planning, entrepreneur- ship and strategic commu- nications. Projects must be completed by May.
