New Nursing Pathway At UH
Beloved Eatery Launches Program
Beginning this fall, students who are part of the program will fulfill all general education, prerequisite and required cours- es over three semesters at UH West Oʻa- hu. Then, upon acceptance to UH Mānoa’s nursing school, will continue their edu- cation for six semesters to complete their bachelor’s in nursing.
“This is the first step to becoming a nurse,” states Rebecca Romine, UH West O‘ahu assistant professor of biology and co-lead for the Pre-nursing Pathway pro- gram. “The UHWO pathway is taught with a unique culture-based perspective in which concepts important to Hawai‘i and health within our community are integrat- ed into the coursework.”
Through Sept. 30, those who sign up for Zippy’s rewards program and make their first purchase will get a free Zip Pac. PHOTO COURTESY ZIPPY’S

“This new collaborative partnership be- tween UH West Oʻahu and UH Mānoa will help address Hawaiʻi’s nursing workforce shortage,” states UH president David Lass- ner. “By working together across the UH system we can prepare students who live in the rapidly growing West Oʻahu region for high-quality jobs that meet a critical state need.”
Free to join, the rewards program is available for those age 13 and older, and those who sign up and make their first purchase before Sept. 30 will get a free Zip Pac.

Getting an education just got a little eas- ier for area residents interested in becom- ing nurses, thanks to a unique partnership between the University of Hawai‘i – West O‘ahu’s Bachelor of Applied Science, Health Professions Program and the UH Mānoa Nancy Atmospera-Walch School of Nursing.
According to UH, the West Oʻahu por- tion of this pathway will help students gain the foundational science knowledge and practice the clinical skills needed to grow into clinicians and make an impact in the nursing profession and in the health of their community. The program fosters a holistic approach through incorporating Native Hawaiian values and principles, as well as place-based and ‘āina-based learn- ing.
Good news for Zippy’s lovers: the local restaurant chain — which has locations in Kapolei (950 Kamokila Blvd.), ‘Ewa Beach (91- 1717 Fort Weaver Road), Waipahu (94-180 Farrington Hwy.) and Waipi‘o (94-1082 Ka Uka Blvd.) — recently launched the Zipster Re- wards program, which means that customers can rack up “Zipcoins” when purchasing food and will eventually earn enough to receive free items, including everything from coffee or Napples all the way up to Korean fried chicken plates or a Zip Pac.
