Aloha surfers and beachgoers,
throughout the documentary — pride for Hawai‘i, our alo- ha, our sport and, of course, the legendary Duke Paoa Ka- hanamoku.
And it all seemed to come so naturally to the Duke.
Hawai‘i with surfing, swim- ming, paddleboard racing, menehune surfing, surf- board water polo, foil board- ing, beach volleyball and the always entertaining, one and only dog surfing competi- tion! You also get cultural, hula, film and music presen- tations for the whole family.

Strauch, “What do you think the most important Hawai- ian word is?” Duke said “without question: aloha.”
Wow, what a
What a human, what a story. It’s really one of the best documentaries ever — a masterpiece on the master. You do not want to miss this one.

plenty in-between days when it’s not too big and not too small. Everyone at every lev- el can partake in the stoke.
Jason Momoa has the perfect voice for narrating — rich, deep, calming, yet dramatic.
Hey, if all goes as planned, The Duke’s Oceanfest 2022 will kick off Aug. 20-28.
“As Duke focused on be- coming a true waterman, mastering the ancient Ha- waiian skills and practices, he was also cultivating what he felt was one of the most important philosophies and teachings of the Hawaiian culture — aloha,” Momoa states.
“To most, aloha simply means hello or goodbye ... but to the Hawaiians, the spirit of aloha is a way of being,” he states.
Hey, did you watch Water- man? This epic documentary has left most theaters but it’s free on pbs.org. I saw it again in the comfort of my home and it was just as good the second time. Of course, I’m a bit biased.
The life journey Duke takes is astonishing and in- spiring. Plus, it’s not just what he accomplished (five- time Olympic medalist and world swimming records, the globalization of surfing, and the overcoming of racism), it’s the how — with grace, humility, goodwillandaloha.
It’s another don’t miss. Hawai‘i’s premier ocean sports festival has over a dozen events and it will all go down in Waikīkī at Queen’s surf break.
Duke was always giving to others, and the Duke’s Oceanfest does the same. It’s a nonprofit weeklong event — through the Out- rigger Duke Kahanamoku Foundation — with the mis- sion to provide resources to enrich the possibilities of
