    State Offers Funds For Internet Bills
While many people are working remotely, distance learning and taking part in telehealth services, internet connectivity is paramount. That’s why a program — launched by the Federal Com- munications Commission — is expected to help thousands of residents, including those in West Oʻahu, pay for their internet service.

The Emergency Broadband Benefit Program began May 12, and eligible households can receive up to $50 per month. Meanwhile, those liv- ing on Hawaiian Home Lands can receive up to $75.
“Now more than ever, in- ternet access has become es- sential for every household,” states Burt Lum, strategic of- ficer for Hawaiʻi Broadband Initiative, state of Hawaiʻi. “This new program has the potential to create more digi- tal equity in Hawaiʻi by pro- viding our island residents who are suffering during this pandemic with the connec- tivity tools they need to live and thrive in today’s digital world.”
