Summer Fun for Keiki & Families
Make plans for fun this summer with these Kapolei-based programs:
CampPalehua.org
Nestled in a forest on the southern slopes of the Waianae mountains, Camp Pa¯lehua has long been a favorite destination for adventure and rejuvenation. With advance reservations – and subject to current Covid-19 guidelines – families are welcome for a day of self-guided hiking or for overnight stays in one of Camp
Pa-lehua’s bunkhouses or cabins. You also can book a scenic camping site and bring your own tent.
MalamaLearningCenter.org
While most of this organization’s in-person, sustainability-focused programs are on pause
due to the ongoing pandemic, the center’s WOW (Without Walls) workshops can be enjoyed virtually.
These monthly hands-on programs can be enjoyed by all ages for a small fee to cover provided materials. ‘Ohana rates are available, too. In May, learn how to ‘upcycle’
old t-shirts into something new. June’s program is an introduction to coconut hat weaving! Pre-registration is required.

uluae.org
This growing organization based in the heart of Kapolei offers two summer programs for keiki.
Nene‘e is a week-long program for keiki ages 5-14 that focuses on exploring
‘a¯ ina from mauka to makai and establishing life-long habits that support our planet. Young learners are engaged in mo‘olelo (storytelling), hana no‘eau (native art and practices) and kuleana (service through land stewardship). Sessions offered June 1 - July 30.
For middle schoolers, Hana ‘I‘o is a hands-on,
food preparation program for those who want
to grow their knowledge, skills and relationship to the animals they
eat. The long program helps students think critically about waste and humane animal practices, evaluate the food they put in their bodies and gain a deeper understanding of food abundance.
Removing invasive plants from natural environments is one of the learning opportunities in Ulu A‘e’s Nene‘e program.
