8 MIDWEEK MAY 24, 2023
Dear Darah,
On Feb. 6, our car stalled due to a dead battery at the intersection of Kamehameha Highway and Kahuhipa Street as we were turning on to Lilipuna Road in Kāne‘ohe. We phoned the police and in a few minutes an officer arrived. He moved our car out of traffic and, while waiting for the wrecker, held an umbrella to protect us from the rain. I am 95 and my wife is 87 and we wish to thank Officer Patterson for his help and consideration. He is the real example of our dedicat- ed police officers. Regretfully we were “shook up” and did not get his badge number or
first name; however, he is from the Kāne‘ohe station and deserves the accolades! Thank you, Officer Patterson!

Capt. Hunter Ah Loo, executive officer for HPD’s Windward O‘ahu District 4, says, “Officer Patterson is an excellent example of what our officers should be. He is a hard worker who is well-liked by the commu- nity and his peers. What he did isn’t surprising. Not only is the community lucky to have Officer Patterson serving them, but I’m also

halo to Becky Tanaka, a Cost- co Iwilei employee who came to the aid of this senior citi- zen who had locked my keys, phone and wallet in my truck. Nowadays, I, as well as many other seniors, don’t memorize phone numbers when they can just be programmed into a cell phone. But with my cell phone in the truck, I had no one to call since my husband was on the mainland. Becky came to my rescue and got
A longtime Costco em- ployee, Becky was a famil- iar face, but I didn’t know her name until I got into this predicament. She exemplifies the kind of employee that any company wants: someone who has initiative and is help- ful, friendly and resourceful.
Kudos to Officer Patter- son for his dedication to serving the people of Ha- wai‘i with care and treating you both like he would his parents and family. What an inspiring police officer and person.
