Simple 4-Step Process Removes Stress From Home Renovation
By Karen Iwamoto
“Wise men say only fools rush in.” The lyrics from the song popularized by Elvis Presley referred to love, but they could just as easily apply to the building of homes, which are also near and dear to Hawaii’s families’ hearts.
The home is where they gather for meals and time together, and where they return after long days at school or work.
Atlas Construction understands that while families want a home that best suits their lifestyles, it takes careful planning and research to achieve this.
It may be tempting to jump in feet first, taking on an extensive building-remodeling project alone to cut down on the expense of hiring a contractor. However, doing so will likely cost more in time and money in the long run. Things to consider include securing the necessary permits, assessing the building’s overall condition and investing in the proper tools and materials to get the job done.
Atlas Construction works with its customers to address these issues upfront, and will not move forward until all parties are on the same page. The company is a design-build contractor, meaning it will work with customers from start
to finish to design and construct their projects, therefore eliminating expensive architect fees.
“We want our customers to feel comfortable and confident about any project they’re undertaking with us,” said Rodney Kim, vice president of construction for Atlas. “That’s why we make sure they are kept informed from start to finish.”
The company has a simple four-step
approach to guide customers and remove the stress and uncertainty from the building process.
• Design consultation – Atlas will meet with customers to discuss ideas and to turn their vision into a reality.
• Budget planning – This step helps customers determine which type of building project works best for them, along with tips
about mortgage rates and loan types.
• Drafting and design – This is the fun part. Atlas puts its customers’ designs on paper and drafts a plan to meet their needs.
• Construction – Atlas drafts a construction agreement and secures the agreed-upon price. Then, construction scheduling is coordinated and selection sheets are passed out.
Atlas also hosts seminars and workshops throughout the year to prepare homeowners for the building, renovation or remodeling process.
“We encourage anyone considering building, remodeling or renovating a home to attend one of our seminars to make sure they are prepared for what may come up along the way,” Kim said. “We want to make sure we are on the same page with our customers and that we don’t move to the next step in the process until we are all in agreement.”
The company also prides itself on incorporating the latest innovative building products to add value to its projects, and its construction techniques meet and, in many cases, exceed national construction quality standards.
