Dear Darah,
After dropping off my mom at chemo- therapy, my auntie’s car died while she was driving. She had my dad with her, but he has Alzheimer’s and was con- fused about what was happen- ing. It was a busy street in Kai- lua so she pulled over as best she could to call AAA. But my dad kept trying to wander off. Mahalo nui to our angel, Col- leen Query, who was driving by and pulled over to help be- cause she saw my dad and rec- ognized the signs of an Alz- heimer’s patient. She offered to get them food (which they accepted) and give them a ride
(which they declined) and was a bright spot of comfort during a very stressful situation. My auntie had just arrived from California the day before so was still jet lagged. Colleen left before I showed up, but I just wanted to thank her for stopping to lend a hand. With everything else going on in the world nowadays, she is proof there are still good people out there!

could see that her dad and auntie might have needed some help, as their hazard lights were on and her dad was standing on the side of the road. Her auntie got in touch with AAA, but it was going to be a 45-minute wait. Her dad was hungry and it was no problem at all to get some food for them while
they waited for AAA. Be- fore I left, I gave her auntie my cell number to call me if AAA didn’t show and I would pick them up. I am so grateful that people don’t hesitate to help my mom when she needs help and was happy to help her fam- ily. By some strange coinci- dence, later that day, I took
mydogforawalkinmy neighborhood in Kāne‘ohe and bumped into her mom and dad who were also walk- ing their dogs. What were the chances that I would meet her dad on the side of the road in Kailua earlier that day and he lives in my very own neighborhood in Kāne‘ohe? Through this incident, I have met three new wonderful people with a family very similar to my own. I was meant to pull over that day. It was a good day!”
