Kenta Kayama joins Margotta Hawai‘i as group executive chef. Kayama is Michelin-trained and attended the Ecole Culinaire Heisiei program in Japan. He trained under Joel Robuchon at the two Michelin-starred L’Atelier de Joel Robuchon, and Hiroyuki Kanda of the three Michelin-starred kaiseki restaurant Motoazabu Kanda. Margotto Hawai‘i is a truffle-centric restaurant in Honolulu.
Dr. Poki‘i Balaz will be part of the fifth cohort of The Obama Foundation’s Obama Scholars, joining 29 other emerging leaders from around the world. Balaz is the chief policy and compliance officer at Lunalilo Homes; she’s also a double-certified nurse practitioner, a member of the Native Hawaiian Health Advisory Board and the first Obama Scholar from Hawai‘i.
Shawn Sueoka has been named athletic director at Damien Memorial School. He was previously coordinator for planned giving, stewardship and athletics at Chaminade University. He also worked for Spectrum Sports and Scoring Live as a spotter/ statistician/reporter, and was a physical education instructor at Hōkūlani Elementary School. He holds a master’s degree in education from Chaminade.

Erin Takamine is a partner at Accuity LLP. Her accounting industry experience includes financial statements, internal control auditing, and compliance and performance improvement advisory services. She was previously managing director of KPMG LLP and is the audit committee chair for Junior Achievement of Hawai‘i and a board member of the Women Corporate Directors – Hawai‘i Chapter.
Mike Sewell has been named general manager of Castle Resorts & Hotels’ Waikīkī Shore property. He will supervise day-to-day operations, ensuring the property and its staff are functioning efficiently and continuously improving the guest experience. Sewell is fluent in Japanese and has more than 25 years of experience in Hawai‘i’s travel industry.
Tabitha Knudson has joined Blue Planet Foundation as its mobility and equity coordinator. She will lead the Sustainable Transportation Coalition of Hawai‘i, promoting accessible, equitable and clean forms of mobility in the community. In this role, she will be key to helping the foundation reach its goal of reducing carbon emissions in the transportation sector by 50% by 2030.
