  Feeding Pets In Challenging Times

      At the start of the COVID-19 pandem- ic, Pride Mendonza noticed more and more ani- mals being abandoned in the Wai‘anae community with many left in Mākaha Val- ley, Ka‘ena Point and other remote areas. Operating out of a little space in Waiʻanae town, Mendonza and his fam- ily began Waiʻanae Wags in an effort to provide pet own- ers with food so they could afford to keep their pets and reduce abandonment.

It is important to note that Wai‘anae Wags does not pro- vide food for animal colonies or feral cats, and encourag- es people to have their pet spayed or neutered.
 Wags has been feeding several hundred pets a month through pet food drives, thanks to a few generous private donors and partner- ships with Hawai‘i Food
bags and delivering them to some of the homeless fami- lies along the coast.
