Hopping On A Hall Of Famer’s Bandwagon
Dear Darah,
I would like to thank and recognize band- master Chadwick Kamei, who was inducted into the National High School Band Directors Hall of Fame in May, at the Pearl City High School Cultural Center.
High School symphonic winds and marching band, and the University of Ha- wai‘i – West O‘ahu sympho- ny band to outstanding musi- cal accomplishments. Under his leadership, the Pearl City High School band has been recognized throughout the world for its outstanding na- tional and international per- formances.

This hall of fame recog- nizes our nation’s most out- standing high school band directors, exemplifying sig- nificant achievement in band teaching through consistent excellence on the concert and marching stages. Pres- ently, there are only 65 mem- bers in the hall of fame in the history of bands in the Unit- ed States. Kamei was also named the recipient of the Dr. John M. Long Award, which is presented to the finest high school band director in the nation.
In Hawai‘i, Kamei es- tablished the Hawai‘i Wind Band Festival for high school and middle school bands in 2014. He has also coordinat- ed the O‘ahu High School Marching Band Festival ev- ery year since 2006. Kamei solicited the participation of world-class adjudicators, clinicians and conductors, which ultimately elevated band programs across the state.
