Ed Nishioka is director of development for Boy Scouts of America, Aloha Council. He will focus on growing fundraising efforts for Hawai‘i’s only Boy Scouts council, which serves more than 5,000 scouts and more than 2,000 volunteers in Hawai‘i, Guam and American Samoa. Nishioka is also on the board of directors for Straub Medical Center, Boys & Girls Club of Hawai‘i, and Kidz for a Cause.
Louise Ing has been named chairperson of Child & Family Service’s board of directors. It’s a role she initially held in 1992, when she became the first woman to chair Child & Family Service’s board. During this term, her biggest goals are bringing back in-person board meetings and attracting new funding. Ing currently is a partner at Dentons law firm in Honolulu.
Keith DeMello has been promoted to senior vice president of communications and external affairs for Ulupono Initiative. He will oversee Ulupono’s communication and policy teams. He was previously the organization’s director of communications and deputy communications director for former Gov. Neil Abercrombie.

Dr. Libby Char, director of the state Department of Health, was recently honored as a 2022 recipient of the Judge James S. Burns Award. The award recognizes her key role in helping the state respond to the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as her contributions to the University of Hawai‘i John A. Burns School of Medicine. She was previously the director of the state’s Emergency Medical Services on O‘ahu.
Ret. Rear Adm. Joseph McClelland Jr. has been named to Chaminade University’s board of directors. McClelland served as a surface operations specialist in the U.S. Coast Guard through five sea tours. He was awarded the Coast Guard’s Distinguished Public Service Award for his role as chairman of commissioning committees in Hawai‘i between 2017 and 2019.
Lila Johnson, supervisor for the state Department of Health’s Tobacco Prevention and Control Section, was recently recognized as a 2022 recipient of the Judge James S. Burns Award. Johnson has been a longtime advocate for University of Hawai‘i John A. Burns School of Medicine through her passionate volunteer work with Friends of the Medical School.
