Yet another Broadway musical-turned-Hollywood movie is coming to life with The Wizard of Oz prequel Wicked, which tells the story of frenemies Elphaba, who became the Wicked Witch of the West, and Glinda, the Good Witch. The former is played by Cynthia Erivo (Harriet), while this sweet pop star with a “victorious” career has been cast as the latter.
Aaron Sorkin’s film about Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz, Being the Ricardos, for Amazon will star Oscar winners Nicole Kidman and Javier Bardem as Lucy and Desi. The fifilm opened in theaters Dec. 10 and starts streaming Dec. 21 on Prime Video. J.K. Simmons plays Fred Mertz, while this actress who made her debut performance in the off-Broadway production of Venus in Fur portrays his wife, Ethel.
Gal Gadot was thrilled when original 1970s TV Wonder Woman Lynda Carter, now 70, played Asteria, the greatest Amazon Warrior in Greek mythology. Carter will be back for the third edition of Wonder Woman, hopefully coming out Christmas 2023. Gadot, meanwhile, hit screens Nov. 5 in Red Notice with Ryan Reynolds and this actor, who lent his voice to a
Disney movie about a teenage ocean voyager.
When Tron: Legacy hit theaters 11 years ago this week, scoring for the science fiction sequel to 1982’s Tron fell to Daft Punk. Despite the electronic duo’s film score, other music hits from the era made their way into the movie starring Garrett Hedlund, Olivia Wilde, Jeff Bridges and Bruce Boxleitner. What early ’80s song from a popular rock band begins to play on the jukebox when the film’s main character, Sam Flynn (played by Hedlund), turns on the breakers in his father’s abandoned arcade?

For a brain game that’ll give those little gray cells a workout, look no fur- ther than crossword puzzles (you can find one on the previous page). The black and white squares and accompanying riddles have the power to expand your vocabulary, help the brain think outside the box and relieve stress (unless you’re going for Saturday’s The New York Times puzzle).
Fill in the blank cells using numbers 1 to 9. Each number can appear only once in each row, column, and 3x3 block. Use logic and process of elimination to solve the puzzle. The difficulty level ranges from Bronze (easiest) to Silver to Gold (hardest). Answers are in the classifieds.
