The Hawai‘i sister society of Global Women’s Leader- ship Network launched this March and was founded to bring together a coalition of women leaders to forge equitable COVID relief to rebuild and transform the state’s economy.

 An offshoot of World Council of Credit Unions, Global Women’s Leadership Network is an organization committed to financial equity, the advancement of women and the philosophy of people helping people.

With Hawai‘i’s historic de- pendency on tourism, limited emergency health care, large numbers of single-household multigenerational families, issues around commercial sexual exploitation, historical displacement of indigenous women and the added bur- den of home schooling, the need for support was great. The Hawai‘i chapter aims to bring hope and unity and the opportunity for change.

The goal is to make a measurable difference in the lives of Hawai‘i’s women by bridging the gender gap and addressing inequalities in the workforce as part of the state’s response to the pan- demic.

There are currently 1 million women in the world who exist outside the global financial system. Many do not have a credit card. On av- erage, women earn 71 cents for every dollar their male counterparts earn.
To address barriers to ad- vancement, we need financial inclusion, more women in leadership and gender-bal- anced boards. Women need an equal voice. There are many smart, talented women in Hawai‘i, who can benefit from sister society mentor- ship and a gender balanced economic recovery plan.
