Deaf Santa Arrives At Pearlridge Center For 30th Year Anniversary, Brings Joy
The islands’ only deaf and signing Santa returned to Pearlridge Center on Dec. 8 for the 30th anniversary of this landmark program, which is the state’s signa- ture holiday celebration for the entire local deaf community. Approximately 150, deaf, deaf-blind and hard-of-hearing students from O‘ahu, plus keiki who flew in from schools on Maui, Kaua‘i and Moloka‘i, shared their wish lists in American Sign Language with Deaf Santa. Deaf and hard-of-hearing performers — stu- dent groups and adults alike — provided unique live entertainment, and special guests included Deaf Santa’s Golden Angels, who have performed at the celebra- tion since its inception.
