was not always easy. But through the encour- agement of community members, Nino perse- vered to now serve children and families as a doctor at Hawai‘i Pediatrics.
Nino’s career aspiration started when she became the new sixth grader at ‘Aiea Elemen- tary School.
“Although it would have been easy to get lost navigating a new school, my academ- ic potential was recognized by my reading teacher, Mr. John Honjo, who recommended for me to be placed in the gifted and talented program,” Nino reflects.
“In doing so, he also inspired me to pursue a path of working with children and helping others. The vision statement for ‘Aiea Ele- mentary School is ‘where dreams begin,’ and it is there that I started to follow a dream that was bigger than myself,” Nino recalls.
