It is no small task making and collecting 38,000 lei to adorn every grave within National Memori- al Cemetery of the Pacific (Punchbowl) for the annual mayor’s Memorial Day Cere- mony. Leeward residents can help by donating lei for this year’s Sew a Lei for Memo- rial Day effort. Having each and every grave in the cem- etery adorned with a fresh lei and an American flag is a uniquely local display of grat- itude and a way to remember those who perished while serving the country. Lei, which must be 20-22 inches long in length, can also be dropped off at any fire station on O‘ahu and the Federal Fire Department on May 27.
