hen Davelynn Mona Chan was growing up in California, she told herself that she would drive
a semitruck one day because “I saw them all the time when my family and I would take road trips.”
After having kids, her life took a turn that would put her back on the road to achieving her dream. Following her time as a stay-at- home mom for 15-plus years, Chan wanted to show her kids that “I could, even at my age, achieve what I thought to be a long-lost dream.”
Chan was introduced to the commercial motor vehicle program at Leeward Commu- nity College, and was encouraged throughout her journey with the program by coordinator, Michael Scully, who works out of Leeward CC’s Office of Continuing Education and Workforce Development.
“When I found the funds to pay for the course and signed up, I knew there was no turning back,” Chan says. “Some people thought I was crazy, and at times, I thought

Hoaloha Nurse Aide Training Program
Start your career path with an affordable Nurse Aide Training Program. This State approved training program begins March 28, 2022 and continues to April 24, 2022, preparing you for the State CNA certification exam.
This will be a virtual class, Monday through Thursday, from 5:00pm to 9:15pm, via Zoom. Three Saturdays during that time will be in the classroom at 94-1388 Moaniani Road, Suite 206, Waipahu in the Watanabe International Offices, for Exams and Clinical Practice. The last two days of class, February 26th and 27th, will be at a clinical site, location to be determined, from 7:00am to 3:30pm.
The application can be found on the Hale Hau‘oli Hawai‘i website at www.halehauolihawaii.org under the CNA tab. The registration fee is due with the application. The program fee is due before the first night of class.
Scholarships are available through Hawaii Pacific Gerontological Society, (HPGS.org) and Adult Day Care Centers Hawaii.
