s Masaki School of Music antici- pates the celebration of its 70th an- niversary next year, it looks forward
to holding lessons in a new location in the Ala Moana area and expanding its offer- ings while continuing to honor the legacy of founder Ellen Masaki.
Starting in January, more than 600 stu- dents ranging in age from 2 to 82 will take private piano, violin, viola, cello, guitar, ‘ukulele and voice lessons at 1347 Kapi‘ola- ni Blvd. The second-floor space will house 12 teaching studios and a recital room. It is currently undergoing a full renovation — complete with koa wood flooring.
While moving more than 20 pianos — in- cluding a 9-foot-wide Steinway Model D Grand Piano — is not an easy task, The How- ard Hughes Corp.’s plans for Ward Village re- quired the school to leave its current location, which it had called home for almost 25 years.
“Our new location will be a comfortable and convenient space for a while,” says owner and president Nancy Masaki, Ellen’s
