Meanwhile, The Sunset Pro presented by HIC wrapped up on Nov. 4. Two super-talented local surfers took home the wins — Gabriela Bryan from Kauai’s north shore and Bar- ron Mamiya from the North Shore of O‘ahu.
I predict Bryan will take her ninth place 2022 WCT rank- ing and turn it into a Top 5 like Mamiya in 2023.

Sunset Pro Winners And Fun Foam Wreckers ‘Contest’
“I’m super stoked to surf Sunset again in a contest and to get another win,” Mamiya says. “It’s been a super good event. The waves were small the first couple days, but the last day was super fun, so I’m stoked to get some good waves.”
Now, to a different kind of contest. The Red Bull Foam Wreckers presented by Catch Surf kicked off Nov. 5 at San- dy Beach with solid 4-foot grinders. The parking lot and beach were packed by 6:30 a.m. and the event was off the hook.
“It’s the most official, nonofficial surf contest in the world,” O’Brien says. “It’s all about having fun and enjoying yourself, win or lose.”
Bryan is also star-level tal- ent. She was the 2022 WCT Rookie of the Year.
