amehameha the Great graces down- town Honolulu. Queen Lili‘uokala- ni and Father Damien stand tall in
the Hawai‘i state Capitol. Abraham Lincoln watches over the keiki at ‘Ewa Elementary School. Elvis Presley greets visitors to Neil S. Blaisdell Center.
All these notable statues on O‘ahu — along with 55 others — can be explored in Hawai‘i Kai resident Cheryl Soon’s re- cently released book, Reflections in Stone and Bronze.
“I am very curious about the world and about my own backyard,” reflects Soon on the reason for writing the book. “Statues are of immense interest now, and I explore them wherever I am.”
Soon is an award-winning city planner who has held senior management positions in both the public and private Hawai‘i sec- tors, including serving as the director of the state Department of Transportation and the chief planning officer for the City & County of Honolulu.
