Business women and female entrepreneurs on the East side who want to expand their network and boost operations can apply for the Hawai‘i FoundHer program. The entrepreneur accelerator course provides grant funding, child and elder care services, work spaces, and mentorship.
  The scholarships, first awarded in 1998, are open to women enrolled in at least the second year of an undergraduate program through the final year of a master’s program in busi- ness, leading to a business
scholarship and Zonta Inter- national offers 37 scholar- ships of $5,000 worldwide. Since the program’s begin- ning, Zonta has awarded 676 scholarships, totaling more than $1.6 million to 522 women representing 66 countries.
According to the Purple Mai‘a Foundation, women entrepreneurs start busi- nesses at twice the rate of men and generate a better return on investment than their male counterparts, but only receive 2%-3% of all venture capital and are loaned less money by in- vestors. This is something the foundation wants to change.
