fter spending 25 years working in the journalism field, Stephanie Kendrick successfully pivoted from objectivity
to advocacy by joining the East O‘ahu-based Hawaiian Humane Society in 2016.
As the director of community engagement for the nonprofit organization, Kendrick is re- sponsible for managing its communications, outreach and education teams, while also serv- ing as point person for government relations.
“I have been a fan of the Hawaiian Humane Society’s work since I was a child and saw this as an opportunity to support an organization and a set of values that are important to me,” Kendrick says of the career move.
Kendrick’s efforts were recognized by the Animal Legal Defense Fund, the nation’s pre- eminent legal advocacy organization for ani- mals, as part of National Justice for Animals Week that ran Feb. 20-26. The annual event is dedicated to raising awareness about crimes against animals and helping those in the public as well as in legal, law enforcement and legis- lative fields combat animal cruelty.
