fter nearly 50 years of dedicated service as an award-winning educa- tor and administrator, Liholiho Ele-
mentary School principal Christina Small is retiring from her impactful role on Dec. 31.
During her distinguished career, Small accumulated an impressive list of accolades, including three National Blue Ribbon School awards for Liholiho Elementary School in 2004, 2011 and 2020, and the Terrel H. Bell Award for a Lifetime of Leadership from the U.S. Department of Education.
“Mrs. Small is a pillar of the community,” says Liholiho Elementary School co-tech- nology coordinator and computer teacher Katie Imanaka. “I have friends who attended Liholiho as kids and are amazed that she is still principal. She has a big global perspec- tive and is always thinking about the next big thing, which I think has led to much of the school’s success. She always emphasizes ed- ucating the whole child, utilizing technology and teaching the students how to be critical
