The new classroom build- ing was constructed on about 1 acre of land previously owned by the city’s Department of Parks and Recreation. It was previously part of the Milil- ani Mauka Community Park, which is located next to it.
According to state ed- ucation officials, Mililani Middle is currently Ha- wai‘i’s largest middle school and has the 11th largest enrollment among public schools statewide, following 10 high schools.
Since opening in 1998, the middle school has operated on a year-round, multi-track calendar to provide the large number of students with ac- cess to classrooms, teachers and facilities.
The new facility in- cludes 34,000 square feet
In the multi-track calendar, students were divided into four groups, which are called tracks, with three-fourths of the student body in school at any given time.
